Welcome Back to a new year in Physical Education!
I am excited to begin a new school year where your child can look forward to new skills, new activities, and new games, as well as some old favorites!
In physical education this year, we will be working on activities which will allow your child to do the following things:
1. Move using concepts of body awareness, spatial awareness, effort, and relationships
2. Demonstrate competency in a variety of manipulative, locomotor, and non-locomotor skills
3. Demonstrate competency in combinations of manipulative, locomotor, and non-locomotor skills performed individually and with others
4. Demonstrate competency in games, rhythms and dance, and health and skill related concepts
5. Know the rules and appropriate behaviors for selected physical activities
6. Understand that physical activity provides the opportunity for enjoyment, self-expression, and communication
7. Appreciate the value that physical activity has toward a healthy lifestyle
Physical fitness assessments will take place two times this year, once in the fall and once in the spring. Each student will be assessed in the areas of strength, flexibility, and cardio-respiratory endurance.
Reminder-in order for your child to participate fully in the physical education program, he/she will need to be prepared for activity. This includes:
1. Sneakers-athletic footwear. Street shoes, sandals, etc. are not appropriate as they do not afford the foot and ankle the proper support for the types of activities that we do.
2. Clothing that allows your child to move freely, but fit appropriately. We follow our school dress code. A T-shirt and comfortable pants are the most appropriate type clothing for the activities that your child will be participating in.
3. No jewelry of any kind -watches, rings, hoop/dangling earrings, bracelets, necklaces are unsafe in physical education and cannot be worn.
I look forward to working with your child and appreciate your cooperation in helping your child in developing skills that will lead toward a healthy lifestyle! As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at school at extension 114.
