Kansas Writing
This year students will be using the University of Kansas' Learning Strategies Curriculum. This porgram is research based and field tested. It has shown that students can make significant growth as a writer using this strategy. The Learning Strategies Curriculum was developed to help students become independent and to generalize writing skills in all areas of school, home, and life. The curriculum has three instructional strands: aquisition, storage, and expression and demonstration of competence. 5th grade students have been using the Expression and Demonstration of Competence Strand in the Sentence Writing Strategy and Paragraph Writing Strategy.
